Our Mission Statement

During the health crisis resulting from the spread of a coronavirus causing the new illness called COVID-19  services and activities which normally take place in church are suspended. The information on our site about activities and services does not apply. During this time please see in particular three new pages (also found by clicking the big buttons at the top of each page):

The COVID-19 Page:

News and updates from church, additional contact details, this week's notices, the latest from Revd Stephen

The Worship at Home Page:

Lots of information on where to find services on radio and TV, live services online, service sheets for home worship, materials for Bible study. Keep scrolling for the latest additions, Revd Stephen's amazing Bible puzzles and the links to enjoy Spring Harvest at home in the week after Easter.

The Junior Church at Home Page:

The latest addition, resources for Junior Church members to be church at home as well. We'll be adding to this page as well as the others so check back to see what's new, and share with us what you're enjoying at home.

Please contribute to these pages. We want them to be as comprehensive and as up to date as possible. Click the button below to send us an email. Tell us about something we've missed, anything that's out of date, links that have stopped working. Send us anything you would have wanted to go into our monthly magazine, the Messenger, if instead it might be suitable to go here on the website, or on our Facebook page - or both.

We are an active Methodist church in the Four Oaks part of Sutton Coldfield, serving the communities of Mere Green and Four Oaks in the northernmost part of Birmingham. The menu will help you find out more about where we are and what we do. Click on the buttons for more options or follow the links in these paragraphs.

The Frequently Asked Questions button is new, so please tell the website editor if your question isn't covered, or if the answer doesn't help you.

Although our sturdy old church looks very traditional you will find our facilities are all new. As part of our calling to serve our community, when they aren't in use for services all our rooms are available for rent by getting in touch with our manager. Click this link or look out for the "book a room" buttons.

At present the health crisis caused by the novel form of coronavirus which causes the virulent new illness called COVID-19 is sweeping the world. It has brought sickness to almost every country on Earth and is still spreading. We are all part of the struggle to hold it in check, to slow its progress, and minimise the toll it is taking amongst the most frail and vulnerable.

A part of that struggle calls for social isolation. With sadness we recognised that following Government guidance means we must suspend services in our church, and close its halls and rooms to the many community groups who would normally be using it. Our response to this emergency and the extraordinary changes it is driving is going to be an evolving one. We all anticipate that the emergency will last for weeks at least, most probably for months, and that the situation may become worse than it is now before we see any change for the better.

We will gradually update our site with a recognition of this new situation and our response to it, both spiritual and practical. In the short term though please refer to our Worship at Home page and the COVID-19 page. It will be updated as often as we can with the latest information, and with practical guidance wherever we can offer it. You can contribute to updating that page - use the contact email address for our magazine, The Messenger

Please join with us in sharing this prayer:

God of all hope we call on you today.
We pray for those who are living in fear:
Fear of illness, fear for loved ones, fear of other’s reactions to them.
May your Spirit give us a sense of calmness and peace.

We pray for your church in this time of uncertainty.
For those people who are worried about attending worship.
For those needing to make decisions in order to care for other
For those who will feel more isolated by not being able to attend.
Grant us your wisdom.

Holy God, we remember that you have promised that
Nothing will separate us from your love – demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ.
Help us turn our eyes, hearts and minds to you.

Candle of Hope

Many Christians are continuing to place a candle in their window every Sunday evening at 7.00 pm and to spend some time in prayer, comforted by the knowledge we are sharing that moment with thousands of others.

A symbol of hope, faith and trust.

Cast all your anxiety on him,

because he cares for you
